What html tag can i use to insert a powerpoint presentation into a web page, i.e after i have saved the ppt file in the same folder with my web files.

you can not include powerpoint slide show on web there is no HTML tag for this.
The alternate option is to save each slide as image and share it using html's <img src=""> TAG
or wait for good news HTML 5 is coming HTML 5 have all the solutions just wait for HTML 5 to give you the solution for this. :)

another an easy way to solve this.
search the net for ppt 2 swf converter , I am sure there are many.
and embed the .swf into your page ..swf files are compact and portable and are supported by all browsers.

The first question that needs answering before considering a solution is "do I need my vistors to maintain interaction in the PowerPoint slide show?".

If the answer is no, then possibly the best solution is to export your PowerPoint slide show as a video. PowerPoint 2010 can do this natively and the result can then be hosted via a provider such as YouTube from where you can directly grab the embed code. If you don't have 2010 then there are various add-ins that can perform this for you.

If however you require interaction then conversion to either Flash or HTML5 would be preferable. You can then create interactions and even branching in the resulting online slide show and here are a couple of examples to demonstrate this:

Sharepoint has a native way to embed a powerpoint slide into a SharePoint webpage. Have you looked into that?
